MEETING ON ACCESSIBLE MEDIA PROGRAMS AND PRODUCTS
In an effort to create an inclusive society in the Media world, Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, (AYJNIHH) Mumbai, will be organizing a workshop on Accessible Media Programs & Products on 21st July 2010. The workshop will be conducted in the committee room of AYJNIHH from 3.30pm to 5.00pm.
Ms. Sonali Rai, International Development Officer, Media and Culture Department, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) London, will deliberate on accessible films for the Blind such as narrative films, audio-descriptive films etc. She has pioneered and initiated the efforts in making the world's first audio described Bollywood film, 'My Name is Khan'. Shri Mahesh D.Kulkarni, Programme Co-ordinator, GIST, CDAC-Pune will deliberate on the developments in advanced computing towards accessible communication programs & products. Mr. Mukesh Khanna, 'Shaktimann' fame Bollywood actor from Mumbai and Mr. Dipendra Manocha, from Delhi Association for the Blind, who is working as the Developing countries coordinator and Lead of Training and Tech Support with the DAISY Consortium, will also be present.
This meeting is envisaged to create a forum to impart information about creation of accessible media programs & products for the Producers of films, Media and Communication professionals, working journalists. This is organized in collaboration with Department of Communication and Journalism, University of Mumbai.
This workshop aims to discuss and implement the guidelines of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) vide article 8 on ‘awareness raising’, article 9 on ‘accessibility’ and article 21 on ‘access to information’. Discussion will be held on production of accessible media programs & products, accessible websites, subtitling & captioning of films, making narrative films for the blind, News production in Indian Sign Language, in addition to technical inputs with regard to use of acceptable language, etc. For course details, contact AYJNIHH, Bandra West, Mumbai-50 on 022-26409465/09869993833.
